Seeding

Soil Sciences

Our work all begins with soil testing and analysis. We do this for a myriad of reasons, from crop optimization to identifying contamination and threats to the environment, to determining fertility and growth potential. Here at H2 Enterprises, we perform soil testing, as well as soil sampling and soil analysis. These services help us to determine many details about the soil so we can treat it in the best and most tailored way possible. Our team is truly knowledgeable and experienced on how to get optimum results from the land we reclaim.

The information that soil analysis helps us to estimate nutrient levels so we can determine what fertilizer would be the best to provide maximize growth. At H2 Enterprises, our knowledgeable, skilled workers have high standards when it comes to doing land reclamation work. Soil analysis helps us do a quality work because being informed means we can better protect the environment from contamination so plant growth can be successful.

Amendments

Depending upon the soil composition and climate, we sometimes add amendments include lime, manure, peat moss, or compost to soil. Lime helps to ensure that the soil is less acidic by the raising of PH levels, and it also will help to loosen soil. Other amendments and soil treatments can help the soil retain water, rid of contaminants, and ready it for agriculture. Here at H2 Enterprises, we specialize in soil amendments and treatments as part of our land restoration processes.

Seed-bed Preparation

To create a seedbed, a plot of earth must be designated to grow vegetable seeds, and then later the seeds can be transplanted to a garden or field. If done correctly, seedbed preparation helps with the survival of seedlings and ensures that growing will be successful. We can help create successful seedbeds through the removal of debris and the leveling and breaking up of the soil.

Soil Decompaction

For sites with sub soil compaction, decompaction measures are necessary to ensure further growth. If the soil is mostly clay or high in moisture, sub soil compaction can be problematic and make it difficult for plants and vegetation to grow effectively. Natural processes can’t always help heavily compacted soil loosen up, at which point you need to turn the experts at H2 Enterprises. We understand exactly how to carry out soil and sub soil decompaction and do them skillfully and professionally.

Topsoil Decompaction

At H2 Enterprises, we specialize in topsoil decompaction services. Plants primarily grow within topsoil layers, so when topsoil is compacted, it can seriously impact or even halt the growth of plants and vegetation. Compacted soils become less able to absorb rainfall, which results in runoff, erosion, and other issues. Our crew can assess soil compaction and take steps to remedy the problem using specialized equipment and expertise. We strive to leave sites in prime condition after we perform land restoration work.

Hydroseeding

Seeding is the preliminary work that must be put in for your property’s harvest to flourish. Hydroseeding is one method of seeding that uses equipment to achieve far-reaching results. For this technique, we use our hydroseeders – along with all the materials of water, fertilizer, wood fiber mulch, and the seeds you are trying to plant. In order to do it properly, the equipment has to be in good order so our efforts can have good reach. Through this work we will make sure to achieve the effect you desire for your land.

Our experts know everything there is to know about soil, so we can easily tell when an optimal time is to use hydroseeding as opposed to the other options available for seeding.

Aerial and Broadcast Seeding

H2 Enterprises accomplishes broadcast seeding through a few ways. The “by hand” method is as simple as it sounds, and the seed is applied manually by our expert staff. This is the least uniform distribution of the seed, and there may be spots that are too dense. Another method we utilize uses machines, either pushed or driven, to apply the seed. The most grandiose way is aerial seeding, which uses airborne means such as a plane, helicopter, or drone to apply the seeds to the soil. The big advantage of this kind of work is we are able to cover a large area in a short amount of time, cover areas that are difficult to get to by other machinery – and in many cases, aerial seeding is the safest option.

Drill Seeding

Counterintuitive to the name, this method doesn’t require the use of an actual drill. What happens is complicated in explanation, but easy to understand in practice. Seeds make their way through a machine, down tubes, and into furrows. The advantage in this technique is that seeds are planted at uniform increments, a set depth, and the furrows can be closed over the seeds. H2 Enterprises has a staff of experts who are happy to come out and inspect your property to decide which method of seeding is going to work well for the land and what exactly you are trying to grow.

Imprint Seeding

Imprint seeding is a method of seeding that uses an imprinter. This machine is a big roller that leaves behind an imprint that looks like an upside-down triangle with seeds at the bottom. Imprint seeding has a number of benefits and advantages. Usually, if there isn’t any ground cover in an arid climate, it’s extremely difficult to get grass to grow. But when there are impressions made in the ground in the form of small furrows and divots, the seeds have a much better chance of taking root and developing.

We can tell if this method of seeding is optimal for your land and crops when we inspect the property – and we have the most innovative equipment to complete the process.

Mulching and Crimping

Hydromulching

The process of hydromulching is an erosion control method that treats high-risk areas to protect valuable properties. At H2 Enterprises, we offer mulching service to protect important habitats and water supply sources. We understand when to use the best mulching techniques and effectively stabilize the lands that we work on, using the professional restorative processes that we’ve honed through the years.

The hydromulching experts at H2 Enterprises use a special blend of seeds that are tailored to your specific needs. Factors that we consider in determining how to help your soil are the kind of terrain, the amount of sunlight the area gets, and the soil type of your property. Following mulching, seedlings will sprout up. No matter if it’s a residential or commercial property, H2 Enterprises provides the expertise, to ensure your utmost satisfaction. We strive to improve and restore land by performing the finest services anywhere.

Aerial Mulching

H2 Enterprises offers a variety of mulching services including wood mulching, hydromulching, straw, grass and cornstalk mulching, soil binding, and aerial mulching services. Whether it’s improvements that need to be made, or a complete renovation project, we are the company to contact for land restoration projects. H2 Enterprises strives to provide exceptional service to our clients, and we want to prove it to you with our quality of work.

Straw Mulching

Straw mulch is a convenient, sensible way to achieve erosion protection and regulate soil temperature, meaning healthier land and less upkeep . Since it’s completely organic, it’s available in abundance and  perfect for large-scale projects. The professionals at H2 Enterprises can help you determine which mulch is best for your project. We have years of experience in mulching, and can assess your land to determine the best course of action for you.

Tackifiers

To assist with our soil restoration services, the team at H2 Enterprises uses hydroseeding and hydromulching tackifiers to increase the likelihood that the spray applications stick to difficult-to-reach or inaccessible areas hundreds of feet from the operator. The addition of a mulch tackifier increases the efficiency of environmental restoration. It does this by the reduction of the number of workers needed to cover a large area, as well as assist in erosion prevention. You can trust that our hydroseeding tackifiers meet our high standards as an environmentally conscious seed adhesive.

Crimping

Crimping is an effective way to mulch and protect seeds from wind and water erosion. The crimping process also helps ensure that weeds won’t spring up when it’s time for a new crop. Combining mulching and roller crimping is a great way to improve your land. Contact H2 Enterprises to learn more about our crimping and mulching services.

Soil Management

At H2 Enterprises, we know how vital soil is to everything we do. Therefore, we have developed soil management practices to care for the health of the soil. A soil management plan is essential to the success of a restoration project, so we make sure to consider all the possibilities and choose the best possible practice for the given area we are working with. We can be trusted to repair and maintain the soil health as we move forward with your restoration project.

Soil provides the basic building blocks for almost all life on earth. It provides the nutrients and foundation for the plants and animals that fill our world. The five functions that soil performs include regulating water, sustaining plant and animal life, cycling nutrients, filtering and buffing potential pollutants, and providing physical stability and support. With the importance of soil and its functions, we make sure to use a soil management plan that is designed to improve the soil quality and therefore improve the soil’s ability to support life.

There are a few different soil management practices that work together to improve soil health. One practice disturbs the soil less, which can create less than ideal conditions for plant and animal life to flourish. More tactics that can be used to manage the quality of the soil is to keep it covered, keep living roots within it, and using different types of plants to keep the nutrients varied and replenished. We will select the best combinations of these practices to replenish the soil and maintain its quality.

Topsoil Management

The term topsoil refers to the top-most layer of soil, ranging from five to 12 inches deep. The texture can vary depending on the location and intended use of the topsoil. It is the layer that first nourishes and feeds plants, helping them to grow strong and flourish. It can also help with erosion control if managed properly.

Sometimes the topsoil that is present is of poor quality. When this happens, we must either perform topsoil replacement or create new topsoil altogether. To create it, we have to make sure it has all of the nutrients it needs, usually by planting and composting a variety of different plants. If the soil is managed properly, it will show changes in the topsoil fairly quickly. Once the topsoil has properly formed, the soil will be ready for further use.

Topsoil in Construction and Other Uses

When it comes to construction, topsoil management is a little bit different. The removal of topsoil in construction is used to stockpile the topsoil for use later, either on that particular construction site or at another site down the line. When stockpiling, we must ensure that the soil is in the best condition, which includes being free of debris and other impurities. When the project is nearing completion, we will use spreader equipment to distribute the soil appropriately.

Slip Repair

When a construction project is to be performed anywhere on or around a slope, there is often a risk that the slope will collapse in one way or another. At H2 Enterprises, we know how to help prevent a landslide from causing significant problems for a project and beyond as the project is finished. We can also repair a landslide whenever it happens and will strengthen the slope to help prevent another slide.

Methods of Repair and Stabilization

There are many different methods that can be deployed to repair and stabilize a slope. Each method has different considerations including the steepness of the slope and the composition of the soil. Some methods involve barriers, such as when terraced slopes are created. Other methods use more natural tactics like biotechnical slope stabilization. With this method, we will use plants of varying root depth to strengthen the soil and prevent slippage.

Earth Moving

At H2 Enterprises, we use our experience to provide high-quality earthmoving services. As we go through each step in the process from site prep to cleanup, our expertise is applied to maintaining a high standard of service. Our experts will ensure that every job is done properly and efficiently. When the project is finished, we will clean up any waste or debris and dispose of them appropriately.

Excavation

Excavation is a major part of any construction project and is one of the offerings we provide as an earthwork contractor. Some of the things we will do during excavation include dewatering, stockpiling materials for later use, and dealing with waste materials. All of these processes allow us to properly and safely handle the soil and soil during the construction project and keep them from causing problems elsewhere. Dewatering, for example, allows us to control the flow of water on a site so that it doesn’t affect either the construction project or the surrounding areas.

Clean Up

Once a project is completed, we will clean up as part of our earthmoving services. At the end of a project, all waste materials associated with the project will be removed and taken to appropriate locations. By the time we leave the construction site, it shouldn’t have any debris, materials, or waste remaining to mar the look of the finished project. As earthmovers, it is extremely important to us to leave a location looking nice and ready for its next steps.

Clearing and Grading

As a part of our contractor services, we at H2 Enterprises handle land clearing and grading. With clearing and grading, we can prepare the project site for construction and create a blank slate. With our grading soil experience and knowledge, we can safely and efficiently use our clearing and land grading service to begin a project in the right way, laying the best groundwork for it to properly begin and be successful.

Erosion Control & Repairs

We have been in the business of properly fixing and mitigating erosion since 1985. There are many erosion control devices and methods to keep erosion in check in and around the project site. At H2 Enterprises, we will use our knowledge and experience to determine which methods will be most beneficial for the project. We install, repair and maintain all the various forms of Erosion Control Devices. Some of our more common techniques and products, are as follows:

Water Erosion Control Techniques

There are many ways to control the erosion and contamination that is caused by water. One such device is a turbidity barrier. This uses a membrane erosion control fabric to prevent soil erosion and contaminant migration in water. Other methods are French Drains, as well as Rip Rap – which is a system of using large rocks to hold back, and divert water.

Soil Erosion Control Devices

To prevent the soil from eroding, we may decide to use mechanically stabilized earth walls to keep things in place and is quickly replacing traditional concrete barriers for projects since they are a lot more versatile. Another tactic we could employ is soil nails. By using soil nails, we can reinforce slopes and prevent the slope from failing. Geotextiles is the third possible method that uses an erosion control fabric to control erosion and improve the soil. Each device is designed to maintain the soil and keep it from eroding way during a project.

Wind and Dust Erosion Control

If there is the possibility of air and water pollution from dust on the project site, we will use dust control methods to mitigate those problems. Our experts will determine the most appropriate method for each project site.

Silt Fence

Another option to protect your land from erosion, is by installing a silt fence per our professional recommendation. We install, fit, and secure silt fences for any size commercial or residential job.
